Welcome to a Mexico of old… Aztecs, conquistadors, ponchos, the lot. I’ve been swamped with, you know, school and exams and other dull things that so often preoccupy the lives of teenagers worldwide, but when I saw JPG, I just had to do a post. The collection is just so much fun, in such a different vein from, well, everyone else. And that stands out. (And provides a much-needed break from the tedium of the daily high-school grind – a jump into another world, as it were, and a much more interesting one at that).

Starting with this ridiculously vibrant palm tree look, sported by the ever-striking Georgina Stojilkovic:

…and just a peep of those shoes, which I’d love to see more of, thank you JPG…

*My theory on the Aztec calendar? Whoever was chipping away at that massive slab of rock that was their calendar finally got fed up. Can’t you see it? Some poor guys with their chisels in front of a massive wall for weeks and months and years until one of them finally gets fed up enough to point out, “Hey, we’ve got this damn thing done up till about 4000** years from now. I think the next generation can handle it.” But the next generation decided they didn’t want to – leave it for the next generation, right? And it just never got done. So there.

**Not sure of this date…

After suffering through 3 hours of school, I managed to leave… I’m going to do this post, then sleep… stupid virus is going around school already.

I’ll start with Rodarte, because DazedDigital has this awesome photo from the begining.

Looks like a scene from a movie, doesn’t it? Something about women ninjas or something? An Amazonian warrior-woman from the Aztecs? Well, that seems to have been the Mulleavy sisters’ inspiration, along with fire – the CA flames and burning all the clothes. The yellowish smoke made for an interesting presentation…

The clothes themselves focus on texture, with lots of colours and patterns combined for an overall effect. The ink drawings on the models’ arms definitely add to the effect too. Most of the looks are fairly… artsy, for lack of a better word. Experimental, maybe? And the vibes range from Samaurai-fierce to edgy goth and everything inbetween. Even the tougher looks offer something in the way of sexiness – partially sheer sections on the dresses and shirts, high hemlines… caging, drapes, long fringes… A combination of fantasy, sci fi, destruction, and power.

Kamila Filipicikova. Sort of shiny rags on this one…

Rodarte Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear

Sophie Srej. A goth-y look.

Juana Berga. I love her!

Rodarte Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear

Rodarte Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear
Jules Mordovets. I love her face too!

Frida Gustavsson. Hey, look, a dress!

Rodarte Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear
Iris Strubegger. Iris reminds me of sort of a gothic heron in this look for some reason… idk…

Final thougts: while they might not be particularly wearable (as is – you could probably figure out some way to wear a partially burned, shredded minidress that won’t involve yourself wreathed in eery yellow smoke…), they certainly are thought-provoking and inspirational. That, and they definitely stick out from all the other Spring collections. I liked a lot of the models, too… A success, I think.

Ever had an interview for a job you didn’t really want? I have. Today.
I had one at this local ice cream place (because I haven’t bothered to apply anywhere else… yet… what can I say? I’m not keen on the idea of working during the summer. Babysitting? Pet-or-plant -sitting? No problema (the Spanish-grammatically-correct way). Tutoring little kids? Sure. Freelancing or copy-editing? Bring it on! But making over 100 kinds of ice cream concoctions and enduring cheerleader and poms people (the only kind they hire)? Umm, no thanks. So on the off-chance that I do get the call tomorrow, I honestly don’t know if I’ll take it.
Hmmph. Anyway. Haven’t done abs in… what, 2 days now? Comment triste, non? I feel the flab coming on… ecchhh.

D&G S/S ’09 look I [still] love:

Siiigh. Weird day, mes amies. With the school yeah winding down, I’m seriously catching the summer bug. I don’t hate school (I just think high school is a bit pointless and mindless), but lately I’ve definitely been caring less and less. Hmm. Summer, arrivez tres vite, s’il vous-plait!

I’m not a big TV junkie…. like, at all… but one show I’ve been watching is USA’s Burn Notice (Jeffery Donovan, Gabrielle Anwar). Basically, it revolves around a fired (“burned”) spy [Donovan] attempting to get back into the game. Meanwhile, he saves miscellaneous people. Gabrielle Anwar is his ass-kicking, model-gorgeous ex (and sidekick). She’s my role model, haha.

Can it be? Fashion Week is over? *heart-wrenching sob*
Actually I’m ok with that. But anyway: Hermes, Galliano, & Elie Saab.

HERMES featured an aviator theme, which was a refreshing breeze (ha ha, get it? Aviator? Breeze? ….. never mind.)

So yeah. A bit of Eskimo-esque-ness at the end there. Now for the glorious Galliano!
Very Russian, very winter-wonderland-y. Very very very gorgeous, it seems to bare the essence of Fashion itself. The amazing clothes were accented by an almost fairytale setting and a dusting of snow, perfectly complementing each other. Dark, luxe colours and fabrics mixed with a few bright looks – a red minidress (complete with lampshade skirt) and a brightish blue coat and dress stood out amongst the throngs of gentle grey coats, white sheer loose leggings, and hugely accented corsets and skirts. The shoes – oh, the shoes! – pompom’ed, platformed, tall, and cool. Ridicuously ornate and embellished headdresses and necklaces and chains were flaunted throughout, echoing traditional Russian decoration.

A truly gorgeous line – while it’s not really wearable per se, it really is… just…. wow-inspiring. The shoes are fun, too – perhaps one of the few really wearable pieces in the whole thing. That, and maybe… umm… the necklaces?
AHH who cares? It’s brilliant and gorgeous and we love it. So there.

Moving on to Elie Saab!

Following many of the trends, the line encompassed neutrals and sheers, bold shoulders and one-shouldered straps. It gave off an air of “cool, calm, collected, and crisp”, due to the subdued hues (pale seafoam green gowns, light grey dresses, black coats, and a few light blue numbers – all interspersed between white, white, white) and the minimalist display.

Elie Saab Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Jessica Stam – the new Michael Jackson? (Look at the glove…)

Elie Saab Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Anna Selezneva. More furry arms? (see D&G’s pink gorilla arms)

Elie Saab Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Coco Rocha in a feathered (?) cape and under that stunning hair. Agh. I want to go redhead (but that would look ridiculous).

Elie Saab Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Simple & minimalist grey dress.

Elie Saab Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Yasminka Muratovich. Not quite so simple… very D&Gesque shoulders. I like it though; the lace is nice. It’d be better without the monster arms.

Elie Saab Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Constance Jablonski. Sky blue, not really a colour we’ve seen much on the runways recently… good! Sky blue: not just for spring anymore!

Elie Saab Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Georgina Stojilkovic (one of my new favourites!) in electric blue. Love this colour – the neckline & shoulders are good too. Who else had that kind… agh.

Elie Saab Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Michela Kocianova. The jacket on this looks almost like the top half of a kimono.

Elie Saab Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Beautiful on Belle, more electric blue!

Elie Saab Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Tatyana Usova. Aaggghhh this is such a gorgeous shade, especially on her skin! And wearable, too. Very Grecian Goddess-y.

Elie Saab Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Georgina again. Gorgeous crystall-y crisscross & sheer floaty gown.

Elie Saab Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Vlada Roslyakova. Striking silhouette… and I should figure out how to get my hair to do that…

Nothing too wild, but still simply (literally) gorgeous.

VERSACE

Props to Donatella – while many designers have gone the way of the past (80’s, that is) with bright hot neon hues, wild prints and patterns, and rampant architecuring (?), she opted for a more refined look.
