Rediscovered this look from Miss Sixty…

Miss Sixty Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear
Danielle Hamm

Love the bell-sleeve, transparent blouse, the tall wide-shaft boots, and the leather shorts… Just the hat makes it a little trying-too-hard, I think. But hey, whatever floats your boat.

A few of my picks for my summer wardrobe…

All F21, except the eBay shorts. Levi’s 504s, I think… idk. But I like them.

33311-NUDEstrappy zipper t-strap platform

32492-OLIVEFrom GoJane…

Urban Outfitters, $40. I need these!!!!!

Figaro Boots
ModCloth.com. I need something like these, with the cutout details…

More UO.

…American Apparel time! (*groan from readers because they know this will be like 50 bajillion images long…* haha not really.)

If I were going to wear unis or rompers, I’d wear these. But I so don’t have the legs… although, durrr, with shorts. Yup, I’m a smartie. So I might venture into that…

Oh, those too.

OK, done with that.

So yeah, you get the theme: very laid back and loose and comfy and not hot. That’s key. Hmm… street style time!

Cool tights and brogues…

So not street style, shoot me. From fashionista.co.uk.

Ahh, summery…

XS Look: Gum Shoe

Layering socks and tall boots. I like.

plastic bag grunge swan

Haha, the obligatory white floofy dress of the post…

And hey, a MObama outfit:

Michelle Obama
A Junya Wanatabe cardigan.

And because I haven’t done one in forever, a look du jour:

Alessandro Dell'Acqua Spring 2009 Ready-to-Wear
Karmen Pedaru.
Alessandro Dell'Acqua Spring 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Anna Jagodzinska. Both, Alessandro Dell’Acqua // Spring 2009. The first one is one of my favourites – one-sleeved sweater dress, hello! The second is mostly just fun, although I did try on a turquoise and seriously tempting flapper dress in H&M the other day…

Soooo yeah. I’m going to attempt a short run today – to test my hip – and maybe shop! Yaaaay! Happy Holy Thursday for all you religious Christians/Catholics… for the rest, have fun not going to church! Haha idk. Ciao,

Ah, spring – everything’s fresh and green and good-smelling… the sun is bright, the clouds are happy puffs, and the sky is blue.

In a word, gorgeous.

Note: I am not here. There. Whatever. Wish I were, though.

Even though there are a few lumps of lingering, stubborn snow, today managed to get up over 60 degrees. Yesssss! I started off the day by shaving dry (EDITOR’S NOTE: don’t.), which wasn’t fun. I have the scars to prove it. I look like I’ve been mauled by a very short bear.
Anyway, spring also means light cotton dresses, cute flats, blouses, cuffed pants, and loads and loads of skirts (pour moi, anyway.) I love how at the beginning of each season, you get the chance to totally revamp your look – go through your wardrobe and see what can be reused, what should be donated, and what should be straight-out set on fire and run from. Of course, not having the luxury of, you know, a budget slightly dampens my mood. I plan to counter this with excessive bargain-hunting and thrift store shopping.

Anyway! A quick note about the economy before I delve into fashion and whatnot.
I know the DOW and S&P and everything have been climbing steadily for the past few days, but I wouldn’t get your hopes up. Not to be a pessimist, but…

So sure. In the one-month view, it looks pretty spectacular: after a drastic drop, an equally impressive incline. But take it into perspective – one year – and you’ll see we’ve had numerous such bumps.  Not to be a downer… oops, too late. OK time to cheer you up with Springy fashion!

I know we’ve all been riveted on Fall Fashion Week (month, really), but now we must turn our eyes back to the present… not a bad deal. As I mentioned, as the weather gets warmer and life gets happier in general, we’re naturally inclined to dress brighter and happier than we do in the dead of winter [read: voluminous spring frocks en lieu of vintage fur and hundreds of layers]. To make your life a little easier, here are a few key trends for Spring:

Brights, big bangles, beiges and blushes, basic makeup, bold necklaces, chandelier earrings, slouchy trousers, bondage heels and cutout booties, wild wedges, retro-inspired denim (acid washes, high rises – depending on your taste, of course), boyfriend jeans, jumpsuits (if you’re daring enough), loose shorts, and girly skirts (with the proper footwear, natch)  are all (deep breath) on the trend list for spring.
It’s all relative – and I really can’t stress this enough – to your personal taste. If your preferred look is head-to-toe black, then you can still create a fresh, Springy look; just edit your outfits and make some changes in your wardrobe. Still need hints? Here are some highlights of the Spring runways:

Abaeté Spring 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Abaete // Spring 2009. Cute, classic dresses are essential for spring (but that’s nothing new)

Abaeté Spring 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Light, bright, and airy at Abaete.

Alexander Wang Spring 2009 Ready-to-Wear

All destroyed at Alexander Wang [Ali Stephens]. Lucky for us, easy to replicate, too!

Balenciaga Spring 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Balenciaga’s alternative to the spring frock. Definitely a stronger silhouette.

And ah, who could possibly forget the BALMAIN band jacket? It seems that it single-handedly (double-shoulderedly, if you will) brought about the 80s revival that swept the fall runways.

Balmain Spring 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Kim Noorda.

Balmain Spring 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Snejana Onopka.

Marc Jacobs Spring 2009 Ready-to-Wear

And how could we forget Marc’s obi bel-centric collection? Oh, another thing: Americana, traditional American prints and old-time styles, and layering granny pieces.

Marc Jacobs Spring 2009 Ready-to-Wear

More Marc.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Karlie Kloss. Lavender, white, and tan crisp cotton = spring to a T.

Eh, enough runway looks, let’s see how girls are wearing it on the streets!

Criss Cross Apple Sauce

Bonnie, f21 dress & leggings. Ah yes, leggings & tights, essentials for those days when it’s not quite warm enough to show your whole leg (gasp! scandalous! haha).

Neutral coat + sweet wedges = perfect spring look.

SImple Black

For your more rock-chic look…

coco goes chloe

Black & white, especially when the white in question is a girly, floatly spring number, is a great transition look. Actually, it’s always in.

Rebecca Taylor Spring 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Rebecca Taylor // Spring 2009

edward scissorhands

Black harem-ish pants have also been frequenting the streets…

white sweater

Simple oversize sweater + leggings = comfy & chic outfit in a minute.

better late than never, right?

Zippers and sheer, combining 2 big trends. (She made this!)

I can't get away from this bag.

Classic tailored look.

Wow… I feel sort of lost without a Fashion Week to recap… it’ll probably take me a bit to get used to freelance posts. Alrighty. Look du jour:

Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2009 Couture

Jourdan Dunn at John Paul Gaultier Couture // Spring 2009. Gorgeous, light, flowy gown.

Random stuff I’ve found over the day:

Arlo Weiner, son of Matt Weiner (creator of Mad Men), is thought to be something of a boy genius. This boy has mastered dressing and found a personal style for himself at the ripe old age of… 8.

His Valentine’s day outfit

Frank Sinatra-inspired

He’s worn this to school… over a dozen times.

More Sinatra style

Alexander McQueen preview (b/c I’m too tired to do a full post): crazy hats and relatively tame outfits. Big lips = a must.

Hello houndsooth! And is that a plastic shopping bag on her head?

Lastly, a few looks from Jean-Charles de Castelbajah and his 80’s-kooky theme… Seasame Street!(?!?!?!)

“To be or not to be” – Kermit on the tee

This looks sort of like a sequined rooster.

…Clint Eastwood?

Hehe, je l’aime! Je l’ai besoin de!

Ah, so appropriate.

Red leather band jacket dress

Hat! Giraffe sweater! Je l’aime aussi!

For those who would critise: fashion does not necessarily have to mean uptight suits, silken trousers and precariously high-heeled crazy stilettos. While that’s amazing, sometimes you need to have fun with fashion… and that’s what Castelbajah does.  🙂

Look du jour:

Angular jacket and thigh-highs at Guy Laroche // Fall 2009.

Again, seems a tad Russian-influenced.

Giambattista Valli Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Huge feathered coat with embellished dress under… or is that part of the coat? Hehe, not the most understated glamour… but gorgeous!

Giambattista Valli Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Karmen Pedaru. Simple elegance.

Giambattista Valli Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Gorgeous, floor-length ostrich feather coat and a peacock-print dress. Die. *sigh* If only I could own one piece of this…

I always listen to classical music whilst blogging… I’ve also started listening to French music (but not that disco-y stuff)… any suggestions?

Now for UNGARO.
“Third time was the charm. After struggling to connect with the Emanuel Ungaro legacy, Esteban Cortazar has come up with a Fall collection that not only stayed true to the house founder’s go-go eighties joie de vivre, but at the same time proved he’s keyed in to what the nightclub set likes to wear now.” [Style.com]
