Welcome to a Mexico of old… Aztecs, conquistadors, ponchos, the lot. I’ve been swamped with, you know, school and exams and other dull things that so often preoccupy the lives of teenagers worldwide, but when I saw JPG, I just had to do a post. The collection is just so much fun, in such a different vein from, well, everyone else. And that stands out. (And provides a much-needed break from the tedium of the daily high-school grind – a jump into another world, as it were, and a much more interesting one at that).

Starting with this ridiculously vibrant palm tree look, sported by the ever-striking Georgina Stojilkovic:

…and just a peep of those shoes, which I’d love to see more of, thank you JPG…

Maria Kashleva. HAT! The hats are fantastic, costume-y, but not quite – because they actually do hail back to a time gone by. Interesting concept…

*My theory on the Aztec calendar? Whoever was chipping away at that massive slab of rock that was their calendar finally got fed up. Can’t you see it? Some poor guys with their chisels in front of a massive wall for weeks and months and years until one of them finally gets fed up enough to point out, “Hey, we’ve got this damn thing done up till about 4000** years from now. I think the next generation can handle it.” But the next generation decided they didn’t want to – leave it for the next generation, right? And it just never got done. So there.

**Not sure of this date…

I’m in the mood to do a sort of long post with not a whole lot of direction. A fashion rant, I suppose. So buckle your seat belts, grab your popcorn and start the show.

And why not start out with some great fashion photography??

[CNV00032.JPG]

[CNV00149.JPG]

Love those black & red wedges. Viktor Vauthier, who seems to be plastered all over fashion blogs and whose photos those two are, posts totally unedited photos on his blog. Check it out!

From DazedDigital.com, Hal Sear.

Tim Richardson’s Rotation photos of S/S 09 collections, also from DD… stunning. Slightly 60s psychedelic… sort of…

Tim Richardson photography

A sneak peak at Temperley London’s innovative way to present collections, which will be unveiled February 17th and 18th. Sexy, smoky soldier? Yes please! (I, unfortunately, and much too short to pull it off the way these models do. But hey, that’s what creativity is for!  🙂

OK, moving right along to… drumroll please…

JEAN PAUL GAULTIER COUTURE SPRING 2009

…aka, yet another breathtakingly gorgeous, stunning, gorgeous Gaultier creation. L O V E.

I love how he combines a very feminine, vintage, traditional look – the sheer lace – with a very edgy, modern, tough look – the sharp, pointed shoulders and the black stripes that create an almost caged effect. Very strong silhouette. Very drool-worthy.

Being the lover of jackets that I am, I love this jacket. (Ha ha.) I love, of course, the black and white, but I also like how it switches from (different directions of) single stripes to intertwine with each other and form plaid at the bottom. Quote possibly more drool-worthy than the previous photo.

More lace + strong silhouette = distinctive flair & very hey-look-at-me-I’m-so-chic-I-can-pull-this-off,-but-so-can-you-because-it’s-just-that-perfect!

…haha, I’m not sure what that means either. But hey, it works.

Mmm, gorgeous, floaty, drapey, sheerness, one-shoulderedness (is that even a word?)

Hello, I’m a huge fan of yours! Ha ha ha! Yay for terrible puns!
But while I question the practicality of this, it is undeniably a wondrous creation. I do like the colours, lime-ish and grey… I’ve been very partial towards grey recently. Hmm.

Oooh, shapes! Love the neckline on this as well as the amazing headpiece AND the gorgeous floatiness on the bottom. And, as always, the black & white.

Shoulders! Beads! Stripes! 80s-esque! Patterns! Shiny!
So, obviously, I want this jacket.  😛

Sort of hearkens back to the 30s, doncha think? (Or maybe that’s just because we’re studying the 30s and the Depression in history… which, as pretty much everyone knows, has a seemingly endless amount of parallels to today’s economic crisis. Although, admittedly, this one isn’t quite so drastic as the last. But I digress.)

Feathers, love. Flapperish, too. Love this one too.

Vamp goth vampire vintage eye-popping garter-wearing beauty. AGH. The headpiece reminds me of Egyptian & Grecian/Roman stuff, for some reason.

All, JP Gaultier Couture // Spring 2009

I don’t know if I’d get married in this, but it is one of the most gorgeous wedding(?) dresses I’ve ever seen in my life.

*scrolls back up, then back down* Yay for ridiculously long posts! Hope you’re enjoying it. (For these long ones, usually it’s just a ton of photos with minimal writing. But hey… what’s wrong with that?)  😉

OK, now for a bit of Versace (Pre-Fall 2009)…

Cute isn’t usually a word that springs to mind when I think of Versace – more often than not it’s classic, elegant, or edgily chic – but this dress is cute. (Sans dominatrix boots, though.)

Nice patterned coat & more wearable shoes. Hmm, black & white again? A major recurring trend, it seems.

Nice fur & wedge knee-highs… love the classic black approach.

Oh look, colour! And a tweed pump… luxe. Love that shade too, feels sort of 60s too.   🙂

Like this… and while I do love the shoe, I thought we were done with gladiator… although that could be seen as a more shield-strap platform. Oh well. It’s pretty sweet either way.

An interesting take on the classic suit… put it in a great sea-blue hue, cut off the skirt, and add a reptile pattern? Versace suit, natch.

All, Versace // Pre-fall 2009

Lovely Grecian goddess (cliche alert!), and I love that colour. So overall, the collection was nice, but nothing too special, I felt. You?

And now may I proudly present…

LANVIN PRE-FALL 2009

“Dark and mysterious and sexy” – 27 Dresses. Not about Lanvin per se, but I thought it applied well. Plus I love that movie to bits. (And James Marsden doesn’t make it any worse! Tee hee.)(There, you’ve seen the very girly side of me. Now it’s locked safely away; back to beautiful clothes.)  😛

Brooding mistress? Damsel in distress?

Draping! And love those wedge boots. Mmmm.

Shiny… in a dark, moody way. But still great. Not a fan (gasp!) of the mustard-yellow bag, though. Sorry.

Fur + gold = fold. I don’t know. I like this pose, it looks like something I’d do  😛

Love the colour, the overlays, and the funky belt thing… and, of course, the shoes!

Glam! But again with the mustard yellow. I feel that it would have been better if the colour had stayed consistent, or they’d used a more toned-down hue… but they’re the ones designing, and I’m here writing about it. Sooo yeah.

All, Lanvin // Pre-fall 2009

!!! Helloooo, prom dress! Ha ha, I wish. I love this photo so much.

Ok, this is getting ridiculously long. But it’s all so gorgeous, I just can’t stop…

Sorry, I’m not going to bother with a LDJ, I think we’ve have enough.
Oh who am I kidding. Here ya go:

Malo // Spring 2009. Love the layered ruffly things.

*sigh* OK, now I’m done.

Prancing around in the nude all day – and night – has become socially acceptable.

Not, of course, in your birthday suit – I’m talking about nude dresses, heels, etc… all over the runway.

You’ll notice that there are different hues of nude – yellow, peachy, cream… I prefer the peachy nude, personally – my skin has yellow undertones (most people have pink), so I tend to avoid yellow clothes unless they’re (a) neon yellow (haha… only occasionally!) or (b) I’m tan.

And let’s have another look du jour, just because this is gorgeous:
