Big event: Grammy awards 2009.
Who: who’s who (with a few exceptions… coughcoughJONASBROTHERScough) of musicians
What they wore:
Jennifer Hudson in RM by Roland Mouret with Christian Louboutin shoes. I love the sculpted top, and – as always – the black & white chic look.
Gwyneth Paltrow – not red carpet, but I love the Versace… the tights, not so much.
Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman (in L’Wren Scott). Shiny…
Sir Paul McCartney in custom (big surprise there) Stella McCartney; with Nancy Shevell.
Ah, Zooey Deschanel in Luella – I love that colour so much, I’ve actually sketched a few pieces in it, and I’m working on a tulle skirt in it… but anyway. I love how she took an almost grandma-ish floral with a vintage vibe to the red carpet… That’s why she’s one of my favourites!
Taylor Swift looking amazingly gorgeous (uuunnnghh, makes me feel like such a hack!) in a classically elegant black Kaufman Franco gown.
Sheryl Crow, looking very tan and pretty in Toni Maticevski… I do love the dress, although I would’ve opted for different heels…
Katy Perry – who I don’t think I’ve talked about in here yet, but I surely will because she has that eccentric-vintage vibe too – looks radiantly rosy (forgive me for all these cliche descriptions and whatnot, all my creativity has been drained by AmLit… ugh) in Basil Soda. Love the colour.
Kate Beckinsale, in Reem Acra. Quite possibly my favourite look from the evening… I don’t know what it is exactly: the colour (rich black), the fishtailness of it, the top, or the huge ruffle at the bottom. (Probably the ruffle mixed with the top).
[Photo of the Jonas Brothers not allowed for personal reasons… namely, I really, deeply despise them].[They worse Burberry and Versace, for anyone who cares].
Coldplay, in… bright jackets. Cool, actually. I want the red one. 😛
Estelle, in Bernard Chandran, with Halston shoes. Wow. I love this, and I also love her for wearing it – it sticks out so much (in a good way!) And the shoes, mmm…
Alison Krauss, in Vicente Villarin, with Robert Plant, in John Varvatos. I love her dress – the colour and the subdued pattern and the shiny texture. And let me say this about that… that being Robert Plant. Let us compare, shall we? Now (above) to then…
All I can say is, the years have not been kind to him. (Drugs, maybe? Alcohol? Never…) And he could use a hair cut.
Anyway, a side note: it seems that with all the classic bands – Led Zep, the Beatles, etc… – the music of their respective Golden Ages has immortalized their image at that stage of their lives. This, for example, was taken probably 40 years ago, when he was in his twenties. Now look at him. Pretty different, eh? And yet people still connect the music with the picture of a young, non-baggy Robert Plant.
But I digress.
Miley Cyrus in Hervé Léger. Not sure about this. I don’t like her, but aside from that: is it just me or does this look make her seem really, really short? (Although I do like the giant flower detail on the strap).
LeAnn Rimes, in Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti. Love this dress and the shoes!
Paris Hilton in vint Versace. While I may not like her, I must say I love this! (Maybe without the bikini-ish top, but whatever. The colours are great and it stands out.)
Eva La Rue in Moschino. Simple & stunning, je l’aime!
Sara Bareilles, in Luisa Beccaria. One of my other favourite looks; I love the colours and, of course, those ruffles/pouffiness! (And the shoes too…)
Paula Abdul, in Basil Soda. On a hit-or-miss meter, this is leaning towards ‘miss’ for me… anyone else? I don’t know, it’s just sort of… shapeless. If it had a more fitted top I’d love it, actually.
Whitney Houston, in Zuhair Murad. Hate her hair, love her dress to pieces. Prom? Please??
So yeah. In general, most played it fairly safe… but they were still so pretty to look at, as always.
Just a bit of this & that now…
At a party at Saks 5th Avenue for FWNY, titled “Cocktails and Covergirls”.
Models Coco Rocha & Ali Stephens.
Vena Cava’s Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock. Love the pattern on the left & the top&belt on the right.
Stephanie Carta and Daul Kim. Love these looks overall, especially the fur & DK’s pants.
Michelle de Carvalho, Drielle Valeretto, and Camila Mignori.
Ali Stephens, Maddie Stephens, and Coco Rocha.
I wanna be a model!! (Except not really… ha ha)
Random: a very 20s look from Matthew Armes’ up-and-coming Fall 2009 show.
…et enfin pour nos looks du jour:
Chanel Iman
All, Valentino Couture // Spring 2009. Just skimming through those… *sigh*. So beautiful. Will definitely do a post on that soon… say, tomorrow??
