Just a few looks from Prada

Prada Fall 2011 Ready-to-Wear
Fei Fei Sun. I love how rich and luxe this look is, from the fur to the deep chocolately brown of the coat – almost reddish – and the desert beige boot. Mmm.

Prada Fall 2011 Ready-to-Wear
Daphe Groeneveld.

Prada Fall 2011 Ready-to-Wear

Prada Fall 2011 Ready-to-Wear
Siri Tollerad.

Not okay:
Prada Fall 2011 Ready-to-Wear
Anabela Belikova. This is an explosion of eurghh. And shiny at that.

Slightly better for some reason – nope, I take that back. Still bizarre and ugly:
Prada Fall 2011 Ready-to-Wear
Sigrid Agren.

So other than the bizarre plaids and stripes (which I didn’t even bother including in here because I consider it practically unwearable) and the aforementioned unforgivable sparkles, it was nice. As always, I encourage you to take at look at the rest of the collection yourself.

This Prada boot. Mmm. It’s definitely unique and fun. I like the shape of the heel. And the colors.

Chiara Baschieri.

Spent all of today in a watermelon red sports bra and a sarong, perfect for these humid days. Tried to go to the beach, but was interrupted by unwelcome clouds and drizzle. Ate hummus. Napped. All in all, a very productive day.
So, swine flu. I can’t decide if this is one of those cases where everyone overreacts and goes crazy over nothing, or if it’s going to be Black Plague 2.0. I’m hoping for the former, thinking it’ll be somewhere between the two. What’s sure is that I’ll be washing my hands a lot, and i recommend the same for you.

The skirts, the seamlessness of the pieces, and the colours are what really sold me on this collection. This is probably my second to Fendi.

I dream of endless summer

filled with warmth and light

laughter sweeps away any grief

wipes away the last tear

life is simple, pure, and clean

youth is renewed, innocence restored

sparks lit, flames rekindled

days spent lazing in the shade

long, hot nights together, forever.

Summer is the stuff of myths

the wond’rous legends of old

when anything is possible –

no story untold, no song unsung,

no limits, no bound’ries to be seen,

everything is new. Endless summer,

the last constraints tossed away

leaves life open and ready for living.

So go, spend your days carefree,

while away your hours,

dash into a field of flowers –

I’ll see you there someday.

FENDI: I’ve fallen in love with these shoe boots (slightly like those MMM cutout boots)

Fendi Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Fendi Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Those MMM boots:

(For the low, low price of a mere $1,154 from eLuxury!)

And a close-up of Sigrid Agren:

Fendi Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

The super-frizzed hair tamed by a velvet headband.

PRADA: Amongst the waders and waders and waders were hidden (sort of) these gems:

Cut and coloured and studded to perfection.

Just a few looks from each.

GUCCI

Gucci Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Iekeliene Stange. Grey and a plummy/magenta colour, lovely.

Gucci Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Leather thigh-highs, dotty dress, and 80s rock glasses. Love.

Gucci Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

More rock.

Gucci Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Natasha Poly. Shine and rock and glam.

BURBERRY

Suede, floppy, drop-waisted, English luxe.

Burberry Prorsum Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Loose b&w.

Burberry Prorsum Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Lily Donaldson. Grey and black, more neutrals…

Burberry Prorsum Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Looks so rich. Navy. Has a sheen to it.

Burberry Prorsum Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Sara Blomqvist. Love the fur & hat.

Burberry Prorsum Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Swishy skirt, sheer shirt, super shoes. Ah ha ha ha…
Why yes, I have been up too long, thanks for asking…

ARMANI

Sharp aesthetics, classic cuts, swingy capes, deep neutrals. Mmm.

Giorgio Armani Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Twins, hats, gloves…

Giorgio Armani Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Jaw-dropping, stunningly gorgeous, choose your adjectives…

Giorgio Armani Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Fierce, my friends, fierce.

Giorgio Armani Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

OooOOOooOhhh! Haha, sorry. Added to my favourite looks list from Milan… Love the two-toned/blocked dress and that CAPE. And the beret. And the little smirk – but not quite – playing around Natalia Belova‘s lips.

Giorgio Armani Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

This look says it all: Capes (and vampire-pale) are back.

PRADA

While most designers went for wild-80s-disco themed, Miuccia Prada opted for outdoorsy and 40s.

Prada Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Fur-trimmed waders?

Prada Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Karlie Kloss. Such a dark look – or atmosphere in general. Love that bag, and the simple shape of the dress.

Prada Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

This coat is almost the embodiment of fall trends: subdued hues (but not monochromatic, which I view as almost the easy way out – but that’s just my opinion. Whatever’s in style is what works for you. As long as it’s cute.)  :P, a rich/luxe/vintage feel, architectural shapes, strong shoulders and neckline/collar.

Prada Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

I’m sorry, WHAT? PRADA?
OK I’ll try to be objective, I guess. But… waders? Sorry, I think this look makes her look fat. Not sure how that works, since she probably weighs about as much as one of my legs. (Well, not quite… but you get my point.)

Prada Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

O_O wtf?
Sorry. Can’t take this anymore. Moving on to Alessandro Dell’Acqua..

Alessandro Dell'Acqua Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Fur, one-shoulder, sheer, neutral, strappy platform shoe.

Alessandro Dell'Acqua Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Sort of tribal-looking fur coat… and interesting semi-transparent shoe.

Alessandro Dell'Acqua Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Again, a sort of tribal/native feel, with the nature-y colours and fabrics.

Alessandro Dell'Acqua Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Constance Jablonski. Really love the structuredness of this one, for some reason.

Alessandro Dell'Acqua Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Interesting blend in this look, sort of rocker-goth-feminine(sheer top)-tribal. Like it.

PRINGLE OF SCOTLAND

Amongst the slightly (or more than slightly) confused, disarrayed feel of the show, there was a smattering of signature chunky knits and whatnot.

Pringle of Scotland Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

A… thing. It’s got fur? feathers? and knit? But I like it. Big collar too. Or scarf.

Pringle of Scotland Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Big knit dress embellished with fur running up and down the sleeves? Yes, please! And nice little bootie.

Pringle of Scotland Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Simple Knits with Karmen Pedaru.

Pringle of Scotland Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

All greys, but different hues… Love the structured skirt and high-necked top… the fur on the shoulders & running down the middle looks a bit wonky, though. But hey.

GIANFRANCO FERRE

I feel the need to post this, from Style.com:
“A question mark lingered over Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi’s second Gianfranco Ferré show. The label’s parent company, IT Holding SpA, declared bankruptcy earlier this week, and it’s not entirely certain that this collection will actually go into production. That’s a shame, because the designers have demonstrated not only an appreciation for Ferré’s legacy, but also an ability to finesse the trends. They evoked the late “architect of fashion” with a white off-the-shoulder blouse with a very prominent bow, but mostly focused on today’s currents, channeling the eighties by way of Queen Elizabeth I. “It is a very positive association for us,” said Rimondi of this season’s most popular decade to reference. “It’s when we were young.” As for the ruffs? Simple: “We loved the Cate Blanchett movie.”

They opened with a pagoda-shouldered coat with seams lined in tiny, burnished gold studs and a stand-up Elizabethan collar. A peak-shouldered jacket, jumpsuit, and dress, all in black, intermingled with the pagodas—but it wasn’t just a silhouette story they were telling. Aquilano and Rimondi have an eye for texture. A pair of jackets combined bouclé, cashmere, and alpaca for a genius moiré effect. Sometimes things did get clunky. Tape and paillette embroidery weighed down one lean skirt, and a few bubble dresses nearly suffocated the willowy models. But an evening dress in bottle-green velvet, crepe marocain, and duchesse satin was as chic as anything that’s come down the runway this season. Whatever happens to the house of Ferré, these two have a long future ahead of them.”

Gianfranco Ferré Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Yulia Kharlaponova. Very dark look. Love. The. Drama.

Gianfranco Ferré Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Shapes! Shoulders!

Gianfranco Ferré Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Aaaaaaaaaahhhhh (that’s a groan of FASHION JOY)

Gianfranco Ferré Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Love the black ruffles & sheerness (which offsets the feminity and potential stuffiness of this look). Interesting hair as well.

Gianfranco Ferré Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

SHOULDER

Gianfranco Ferré Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Sophie Srej. Bow, volume, platform, shapes, B&W.

Gianfranco Ferré Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Katy Fogarty. Structure again, grey again. gorgeous again.

Gianfranco Ferré Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Alana Kuznetsova. It’s a deep, rich black, full of texture and life; the ruffles, folds, layers, and huge shaped collar… uuunnnnggghhh. I think I’m in love.  🙂

So there you go. Sorry about the brevity, I’ll (hopefully) get around to posting more… but hey, it’s up here now.

While I must admit I didn’t watch the Oscars/Academy Awards per se – and don’t know who won (except Slumdog Millionaire, snatching 8 Oscars; I know this from listening to NPR every morning on the way to school) – I’ve done my duty and checked out all the looks. A few were right on, a few fell a little flat, and a few should’ve been burned. Here we go!

Penélope Cruz, in vintage Balmain Couture. Definitely a highlight of the evening.

Meryl Streep, in custom Alberta Ferretti. This dress doesn’t do much for her colourwise or shape-wise.

Freida Pinto, in John Galliano. A hit!

Marisa Tomei, in Atelier Versace. One of many looks of the evening to hail back to the golden age of Hollywood, filled with classic style and glamour.

Viola Davis, in Reem Acra. Blech, sorry: this one looks too tacky Prom-y for me (despite the fact that it is Reem Acra).

Anne Hathaway, in Armani Privé. Agh, she’s such a Grecian goddess type. (Read between the lines: LOVE THIS LOOK)

Marion Cotillard, in Christian Dior Haute Couture. One of several celebs to sport Haute Couture; again, hailing back to the Golden Age.

Halle Berry, in Marchesa. Gorgeous colour & love the fishtail.

Miley Cyrus, in Zuhair Murad. Agh (not in a good way). Beside the fact that I don’t like her, the dress is good – from the shoulders to the belt. Not a fan of the scale-looking skirt.

Heidi Klum, in RM by Roland Mouret. Of course Heidi pulls off the bright red 80’s-esque sexy gown with that outrageously gorgeous neckline.

Evan Rachel Wood, in Elie Saab Haute Couture. Love the floatiness and the beigey-nude colour.

Sarah Jessica Parker, in Christian Dior Haute Couture. Stunning (although I’d go without the belt on the gown. But whatever).

Jessica Biel, in Prada.

Taraji P. Henson, in Roberto Cavalli. Not the best view of this dress but it’s one of my favourites from the evening.

Alrighty, there you have it. Ciao!

Shoes, bags, the lot – python’s making a comeback, although in my mind it’s always been a Good Thing. I recently bought a pair of snakeskin (patterned) booties… alas, they were a smidgen too tight, and I had to return them  😦
