I’ve been on a Poison binge lately – the band, that is; you wouldn’t get very far on a poison binge unless either (a) you have a mega immune system, (b) you binge in very very small amounts, or (c) you die. At any rate, I’m feeling very 80s-glam-hair-metal-bands (and 90s, but not really grunge), and that means big hair, leather, bright colors… GNR, Poison, Aerosmith, Def Lep, etc. The works. Now, most people – average people – find it difficult to pull off leather pants. Leather skirt, possibly. (Though I highly doubt my parents would approve… a laughable thought if I ever had one). Band tees, though, can work. Done right. Big hair? To an extent. Big jackets, heels, bodycon… all of this is acceptable. (Relatively speaking, of course).

I’d post more, but I have to sleep… chem test tomorrow… ugh. Why do teachers insist on cramming in as many tests and quizzes and labs just before break – “SB-oh-10,” as it’s lovingly called by my (kind of dumb, but funny) classmates – when we’re all obviously at our least focused. *Sigh* Such is the life of an unemployed high schooler. Night, world.

Marc Jacobs
More subdued than his usual ostentatious, over-the-top show. Greys, blacks, furs, tweeds… very classic pieces. Throw in some shine and texture and velvet and you’ve got a show!

The shoe:

Marc Jacobs Fall 2010 Ready-to-Wear
Big 20s/30s/40s-influence here, I feel… the furs, the shoes, the cuts of the dresses, very of that time.

All in all: shiny and fur and classic tweeds… I liked it, but it wasn’t anything spectacular.

I’m not really a flats kind of girl (for a few reasons: lack of arch support and lack of badly-needed extra inches), but a while ago – a year, maybe? – I saw some Marc Jacobs flats in Teen Vogue (I think) that had the face of a mouse on the toe. Too cute, absolutely. Of course, there was no way I’d actually be purchasing them – $200 for flats? Non, merci! – but I liked them. And just now I came across a new pair of mice, black bejewelled.

Unfortunately, they seem to be out of stock pretty much everywhere… but if you can get your hands on a pair, congrats 🙂 (Be sure to check out eBay!)

Spent all of today in a watermelon red sports bra and a sarong, perfect for these humid days. Tried to go to the beach, but was interrupted by unwelcome clouds and drizzle. Ate hummus. Napped. All in all, a very productive day.
So, swine flu. I can’t decide if this is one of those cases where everyone overreacts and goes crazy over nothing, or if it’s going to be Black Plague 2.0. I’m hoping for the former, thinking it’ll be somewhere between the two. What’s sure is that I’ll be washing my hands a lot, and i recommend the same for you.

I dream of endless summer

filled with warmth and light

laughter sweeps away any grief

wipes away the last tear

life is simple, pure, and clean

youth is renewed, innocence restored

sparks lit, flames rekindled

days spent lazing in the shade

long, hot nights together, forever.

Summer is the stuff of myths

the wond’rous legends of old

when anything is possible –

no story untold, no song unsung,

no limits, no bound’ries to be seen,

everything is new. Endless summer,

the last constraints tossed away

leaves life open and ready for living.

So go, spend your days carefree,

while away your hours,

dash into a field of flowers –

I’ll see you there someday.

Somarta // Fall 2009 (Japan Fashion Week)

Somarta A/W 09, courtesy of Coutorture

Too bad JFW is so low-key and under-reported. As The Business of Fashion points out, that’s weird, because Tokyo is the most designer-obsessed place in the world. Ah: “The government now subsidises many of the shows with the idea of bolstering Japan’s textile exports. This government intervention, unfortunately, has had mixed results. Sure, the government subsidies allow many young brands to realize their vision. But in general, the week suffers from a lack of name brands. Comme des Garçons, Yohji Yamamoto, Junya Watanabe, and Under Cover all show in Paris, the de facto capital for global fashion.”

A while ago – on the fall runway posts – I mentioned one model that I thought looked like Alice Cooper. So.
I am forced to eat my words, for this is definitely not Alice Cooper.

jamie-spread1.jpg

That’s Jamie Bochert in W and i-D and looking very un-Cooperesque. I still think that in the first photo, she looks a bit like that…

Hmm, maybe a bit of celeb trash gossip. (Hey, everybody needs some!)

Bored? Peruse through 38 photos of the most luxurious (and in most cases, ridiculously extravagant) celeb houses on the market. Here. Hmm, maybe I should be a millionaire…

Rihanna‘s got new ink: a gun on her ribcage. But is it CoverGirl material? (Not so much…)

Rihanna has been keeping low profile since allegedly suffering abuse at the hands of her ex-boyfriend, Chris Brown. And while she's attempted to stay out of the public eye, a new picture has popped up everywhere - showing a bangin' new tattoo.

Tattoo artist Bang Bang posted a pic of the Barbadian singer on his Myspace page showing the new gun ink on her ribs.

It's just the latest ink Rihanna has been sporting...

Kanye West is no more – nope, he’s changed his name to Martin Louis the King Jr, to fully embody MLK Jr and Louis Vuitton.
Really?

In Complex magazine.

He did say, though, “How the hell is a 29-year-old grown ass man acting like a little b—?” he asks. “How spoiled can I get?”
Good question.

Kira Plastinina: do those words make you shudder? Cringe? Groan? Roll your eyes? Yeah, us too. But never fear, good news is here! All of her US shops will be closed by the end of this year.
Sorry, some bad news too: she’ll be coming across the pond for Parsons in 1 1/2 years. Agh. Although I must admit it’ll be good fodder for trashy gossip tabloids…

An empty, ahem, Kira Plastinina store.
One of her many (although there are only 2 remaining now) US stores, perpetually empty.

Lastly, a cool lookbook: Elizabeth & James.

Sorry my last few posts have been pretty uninspired – mostly just random cool stuff I find whilst perusing my hundreds of fashion feeds – I’ve been busy with school (sort of…), designing/trying my hand at sewing (!!), writing and editing my friend’s story, trying to rediscover the clean room hidden under the current disaster that is mine, and oh… going through roundabout after roundabout so as to not flunk my road test tomorrow – 8:30 am. The good news: it won’t be traffic-y at all. The bad news? I may not be fully awake. Oh well. Wish me luck!
