Never did a post on MaxMara SS 2010… actually, I think I eventually gave up on trying to keep up with FW…

MaxMara: military touches, toned-down hues, cool laceups, silk tanks, loose coats.

Final thoughts: pretty good, though personally I’m not a fan of military styles. The shoes were cool and I liked the rich look of a lot of the fabrics – silk, predominantly. So pretty good, just not to my taste, I suppose.

I’m starting with Jason Wu for a few reasons… 1: thinking of M. Obama (I refuse to use ‘Mobama’) and 2: his design on the front page of Style.com is gorgeous. And did you hear? Anna Wintour smiled during his show, front row, sunglasses and all!

General thoughts: pretty good. Nothing to wild or extreme, all sort of feminine, springy looks. (One could easily picture Michelle in many of these…) The colours were good, sticking with – generally – more mild tones, although the textures and materials (ostrich feather, hello!) gave the collection a little oompf. Wearibility: check. Realistic: check. Gorgeous: check.

Yulia Kharlaponova – I like the texture, mostly, and the bow/side tie.

Jason Wu Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear
Iekeliene Stange – [this was the look on Style.com] – love the shoulder puffs and the crossover on the skirt. Modern 80s take, good.

Addison Gill – I like how this has the style/cut of a tracksuit, but the appearance of a more refined fabric.

Ranya Mordanova

Imogen Morris Clarke, one of my favourite models!

Rianne Ten Haken – This fulfills the 80s rock requirement in my book.

Ksenia Kahnovich – Reminds me of that Thakoon dress from SS09…

Feels like MJ, non?

Heloise Geurin

Jason Wu Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear
Eniko Mihalik – feather skirt = oui!

Jason Wu Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear
Iris Strubegger – LOVE! The lavender colour, the all-over ostrich feathers… repeat,
LOVE.

Jason Wu Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear
Karlie Kloss
– another feather dress. Mmmm. But I like the other better (the bottom band on this one seems a little off to me, though the green belt is fun).

Final words: I would totally wear this stuff. That lavender ostrich number? Totally my dream homecoming dress. All very wearable, which is – brace yourself for overused buzz-phrase! – key in this economy. But really, wearibility pretty much translates into success (assuming your designs are good, which his are).

Mmmhmm. Note the lack of towering heels… good for arches, but not so good for people with, shall we say, non-modelesque legs. (Moi, par example?)

Yep, for about the past 4 or 5 days it’s been cloudy/drizzly/foggy/humid/some bizarre combination of the 4. Great running weather though – 60 degrees, a pinch of humidity, and a light mist. Mmmm. (Just did an easy 4, my running-partner-in-crime-du-jour K wasn’t feeling too well. Oh well).

Ok, WHAT SEASON are those Chloe elf-like studded booties from? And why don’t I know?

Hmmm, nearly friday. Things to do tomorrow…
Oh, didn’t get that job. Ohhh darn, guess I’ll just have to tutor and babysit (and start a clothes rental service?? I pretty much do anyway… haha)

YSL, like so many other fall lines, was monochrome and dark – but not necessarily depressing and recession-y. Pilati took the classic moto jacket and revamped it, amping it up a bit; realistic streetwear was rampant. Yay!

At Stella McCartney, we were treated to not only the miniscule-heeled vegan thigh-highs (!), but mini-trenches that doubled as dresses, part of her move – seemingly – towards a more refined look, as opposed to the sportier look of previous collections.

VIKTOR & ROLF were clear on their theme: theatre. With the models sporting white mask-like makeup and draping abounding (somewhat resembling theatre curtains, perhaps?), you were transported to a stage with Roman sculptures – another influence (draping) – and presented with look after look, a large number of which could easily be swapped from the runway to an event.
