This morning, I found the blog 1000 Awesome Things. It’s just that – a daily post of something awesome in life. Things like Your Pillow and Sweatpants are on there. Things that everyone knows and loves, but has never bothered to think about or write down. Check it.
Plus, you instinctively start thinking of your own Awesome List. Here are a couple of mine:
rainstorm showers: When you close your eyes and let the water pelt your head, you can pretend you’re outside in a massive storm.
crisp apple: No explanation needed, I think.
fresh sheets: What’s more lovely than cool, crisp, freshly washed sheets on a cool summer evening? Not much.
waking up on a nice day: The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, the sky is blue, the clouds are puffy. It’s a good day to be alive.
waking up on a rainy day: Applies particularly to weekends. You drift into consciousness, hear the gentle patter of rain on the roof, smell the rain if your window is open, then smile and bury your head back into your pillow as you realize that (a) you can go back to sleep guilt-free and (b) you have an excuse to spend the entire day loafing around inside.
waking up with your cat sleeping next to your head: You roll over and open your eyes. There is a warm, purring, furry lump next to you. Good morning! It’s going to be a good day! Because there is a cat next to you.
the extra-seasoned bits of chex mix: The golden nuggets in the bag. Everyone loves them, everyone wants them, but only the Few and Special can actually eat them. Extra salty, please.
watching the snow fly towards you at night in a car: Mesmerizing. (Warning: It’s Very Easy To Start Staring Into Your Windshield As You Watch The Snow Whirl Towards You And Consequently Start Swerving Or Crashing. So Watch It.)
the Perfect Fry: Different per person, but they’re out there. Personal preference: thick, not too salty. quality.
hanging out with people shorter than you: Applies particularly to those who are already vertically challenged to some degree (me!). It makes you feel good. You get to see people’s hairlines for once.
people are more fun in sweats. Everyone relaxes.
waking up from a nap, being disoriented and confused, then figuring out where you are and what’s going on. Especially if you thought it was Monday morning when it was actually Sunday afternoon.
eating junk food guilt-free: Sometimes, you just need to and you don’t care.
wearing sweats directly after shaving: Wonderful smoothness.
So there you have it. Oh! I should add:
Spending 1 1/2 hours on 1000 Awesome Things instead of studying for finals and the ACT.
Time well spent, I feel. A good way to end the weekend.
