Mmm, a nice day… overcast and a bit humid, but warm.
Lately I’ve been… mmm, not quite obsessed, but find my thoughts straying back to a few things, all related; those things are:
Item 1: Really simple, basic chic summer clothes (I’m talking really, super basic: white and grey tanks [loose and fitted], a few colourful ones [mostly fitted], some cutoffs, a cute grey dolman-sleeve hoodie, thin l/s-tees and sweaters [white, for those chilly mornings on the beach!], a multitude of colourful ssports bras [because one can never own too many sports bras. I bought a plummy/raspberry C9 one just today… mmm, deeeelish!], and ending with shoes – the one thing I’ll go a bit crazy with. There were these sweet white reptile flips, but I was sadly broke by the time I saw them… Oh, a little white sundress as well. And that’s pretty much it.) It simplifies things so much, really; during the school year, I’m all gung-ho about always looking super, umm, chic, and never being sans heels, but in the summer, it’s pretty much me + my cutoffs + a bright bra + a tank + flips + sand/sun/exercise/fresh air/friends/any combo of those 5 things.
Item 2: Getting into ridiculously good shape. This entails eating healthily and exercising religiously, which requires discipline (particuarly if you love food as much as I do… but I’ll get to that in Item 3), which requires motivation and a desire to achieve your initial goal. A few points for this one. By “ridiculously good shape,” I do not mean super skinny and model-esque. I mean hardcore-marathon-runner-esque. I mean, I’ve got abs and biceps and calves and whatnot now, but my one friend, C, is just ridiculous. 100% toned muscle, the freaking beauty. So. Running at least 5 miles per day (sometimes less, sometimes more – I’m aiming for over 350 by the end of the summer [for XC]), intense abs and weights, and possibly throwing in some early-morning yoga afterward. The goal: muscles everywhere and looking super hot in short cutoffs. (Toned thighs are a must!)
Marathon runner. Jealous. Why oh why did my hip need to get messed up? I could’ve run the half marathon in a week… tres triste, non? 😦 Ah well, c’est la vie.
Item 3: Food. I love it. And not just ice cream and chocolate – although god knows I love the stuff. As a general rule, runners ❤ carbs, completely. I love them. I don’t see how anyone can live without them or think they’re bad. Pasta? Please. Bread? Por favor! Bagel? Every morning, baby! Oh, that and fruit & veg… mmmm. I pretty much constantly crave either apples, strawberries, carrots, or watermelon. So my goal for the summer is to just eat really, really healthily.
Honestly, I don’t get why people get into all these weird fad diets and pills and stuff. The only way to really get healthy and lose weight (depending on your goal) is to change your lifestyle. Sure, you could do some sort of crash diet-and-pill combo for a few weeks and lose, say, 10 lbs, but if you carry on like you were before, you’ll end up just where you started – if not further back. You need to seriously eat healthy stuff – don’t go blaming it on poor old carbs! – and get exercise. Without that, you won’t get anything accomplished.
Item 4: Wear sunscreen. Yeah, sure, being tan looks good now, but wrinkles and skin cancer when you’re 35? No thank you.
Item 5: Learn to sew. Seriously. And maybe work on guitar and tennis while you’re at it, my dear…
Item 6: Going with the simple/chic look + the sexy muscles (teehee) comes: cute/sexy pajamas – slightly vintagey and/or lacy and sexy – and lingerie/cute stuff. Yeah, I guess I don’t technically need lingerie, but… it’s just fun to have, you know? (Not hardcore stuff – more just lacy, cute-but-sexy, garters and ruffles and stuff. Not, like, hardcore seductive stuff. No bf, remember? Haha). But really. Randomly throughout the day, I’ll find a picture of a loose white tee and garters pops into my head. C’est foulle, non? Mais… ouais….
Anyway, now that I’ve rambled on for a bit…

And the ever-recurring Amazing Sanda Backlund knitwear!
Ah, thinking of ocean and beach and saltwater breezes and cool mornings and walks through semi-slushy sand…
Seems so ‘English rose garden’-y, right?

OH! And one more thing… This morning as we parked our car for church, we noticed that the car in front of us had a bumper sticker that said “JESUS SAVES. OBAMA SPENDS.” We deferred our entrance to church and spent the best part of 5 minutes scratching our heads, trying to determine what was meant by this peculiar statement. We came up with nothing. What, “JESUS SAVES. OBAMA SPENDS. BUSH KILLED THE ECONOMY”? Really. So that got my goat, as it were.
Unfortunately, it was inside the car… we had to physically restrain my (very politically active) older brother from, umm, breaking and entering and removing said offensive material.
