Among those in the know, vintage is one of The Trends. The Trend, even. But I don’t classify it as a “trend” per se… the kind you see almost all the celebs trotting around in for about 3 days before there’s a new trend. This is a Trend that lasts, and is a Good Trend.
You see, vintage – as a trend, or more exactly, style – has such a wide range of options: eras, styles, designers… the options are endless; you can create any look you feel like and deem it “vintage” if it’s, say, a thrifted woolly mammoth-esque coat with a brocade skirt and oxfords. As long as you know how to work it, vintage is the best thing since sliced bread.
A few celebs in particular favour vintage to brand-spanking-new couture; Zooey Deschanel comes to mind. She is one of my – if not the only – celebs whose style I love. Cute, quirky vintage with a very… distinct vibe.
Love the last photo especially; it has sort of a 60s vibe.
An important thing to remember when looking for great vintage pieces is:
Look for little things that make the piece unique – embroidery, an interesting shade, an uncommon pattern, even the fabric itself. Fabric & material are important to take notice of – they define the vibe of the piece. Lace tends to lead to more girly, while a matte crinkly fabric goes with a traditional, rustic feel. Depending, of course, on how you wear it. That’s the beauty of vintage.
