The trend is growing on the runways, in the streets, everywhere; the leggings, the metallics, the leopard prints, the leather.
The 80’s are back (for now). But that’s good.
After all, isn’t throwing on some black/purple/red heels, leggings, an oversize tee, jacket, and hat easier than skirts/heels/sweaters/etc? I think so. Even being a more girly/preppy person, I’m drawn towards this idea of garage band grunge. (It helps that I love retro music, and would have no trouble sporting a Pink Floyd, Stones, or Led Zep tee at any time.) Plus, it’s gentle on your credit card – just hit the thrift stores (Goodwill, Salvation Army…), you’ll find a treasure trove if you hunt & are creative 🙂
Let’s take a look at the runways…
The metallic pieces were everywhere: Prada, LV, Al McQ, Versace…
Prada // Spring 2009
Louis Vuitton // Spring 2009
Alexander McQueen // Spring 2009
Versace // Spring 2009
And of course, Balmain brought about the band jacket…

Alexander Wang // Fall 2008
D&G // Spring 2009
Ann Demeulemeester // Spring 2009
Of course, you don’t need to be on the runway to rock the… well, rock.
Zippers are big this season, lending to the rocker trend – skirts, dresses, shoes, shirts, anything – easy to DIY, which is a plus!
Skinny jeans and black boots will do the trick as well.
Karla of karla’s closet has the grunge vibe down, no arguments.
…this turned out to be a very long post, photo-wise. Better wrap it up with our look of the day…
